For many Puerto Ricans, the third week of January is still considered Christmas, marking the end of all the holiday feasts. During this third weekend of January, the traditional Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián (Street Festival) takes place, celebrating the saint and a series of traditions in the old city.
The crowd, "armed" with Panderetas and Güícharos, melts with the performers’ incessant movements to the rhythm of the Plena. The contagious energy fills the streets with an intense sense of joy. I’ve never encountered such friendly and kind people as during the week I spent there.
